About me

Technical depth.
Human perspective.

I’m Alfred Muñoz—a mechanical engineer focused on weight control, project coordination, and clear technical communication.

For more than 15 years, my offshore and marine engineering work has connected detailed calculations with the people and decisions behind complex projects.

My background

From the shipyard
to the full
project picture.

My engineering career began at Keppel AmFELS in Brownsville, Texas, where I worked on jack-up drilling rigs. I calculated weights and centers of gravity from drawings, prepared inclining test and deadweight survey reports, and wrote equipment specifications and commissioning memos.

That foundation grew into weight control work across offshore platforms, drilling modules, and drilling units. At SBMA, KCAD, and Worley, my assignments spanned FEED, greenfield and brownfield design, fabrication, and dry-dock phases. At Worley, I prepared monthly weight reports for ADNOC Offshore, including weight cases and load conditions for multiple platforms.

My experience also includes mechanical package engineering on the Hebron offshore drilling modules, commissioning preparation for onshore equipment, and change management supporting a Canadian Navy patrol vessel program. Assignments in the United States, Canada, and Abu Dhabi have given me experience working across disciplines and project environments.

How I contribute

Reliable information.
Better-informed decisions.

I bring together technical analysis, structured documentation, and coordination so project teams can understand the details and act on them.

Make the weight picture clear.

I develop weight budgets, procedures, allowances, and contingencies; extract and validate 3D CAD weight data; and track adverse trends. My work draws on ISO 19901-5, client specifications, and SAWE recommended practices. Active member of SAWE (Society of Allied Weight Engineers).

Keep disciplines connected.

I have led a multicultural, multidisciplinary team of eight to produce reports and charts supporting faster, more accurate decisions. My coordination experience includes Master Equipment Lists, vendor documentation, supplier follow-up, change management, and progress reporting.

Turn requirements into useful documents.

My technical writing includes weight control and pre-commissioning procedures, RFQs, purchase specifications, Technical Information Requests, and testing and certification reports. I use vendor manuals and engineering drawings to translate requirements into practical guidance.

Communicate so others can use it.

Teaching mathematics and college algebra at Fortis Institute, tutoring mathematics at Katy ISD, and my current long-term English Language Arts assignment have added experience explaining ideas to varied audiences. Clear communication is a consistent thread across my engineering and teaching work.
